We Are Lawrence: Today is the Day!
Today is the day we begin our journey together to let the world know that there are people who care about Lawrence, who have been fighting all their lives to make this city a great place to live and raise a family, do business, provide a service and give a helping hand. For decades, your voices have been drowned out by the naysayers, the corrupt, all those who hide behind computers barraging the city with hate and the media’s addiction to the publicity our city’s problems bring. And because the negative has dominated, many of you have felt alone and powerless.
For We Are Lawrence positive image and problem solving go hand in hand. We are Lawrence is about giving all the individual voices who have been struggling all their lives to make Lawrence a better place a sense of hope, strength and enthusiasm. To let you know that YOU ARE NOT ALONE in your struggle. That in fact there are thousands like all of you with common longing for a good Lawrence and who all have been trying to figure out how to achieve it. All your lives, you have been working hard for a living, volunteering, worshiping, referring, raising your children the right way, voting, cleaning up parks, starting and keeping businesses, striving to succeed.
This is a great opportunity to turn it around! We Are Lawrence is giving the community an opportunity to see that there is hope and that there are thousands like you! And only by combining our efforts and energy, together, we can make a real difference in Lawrence. Through this unity, the community will become powerful again. It is already in the works. We are here to let the world know that we too matter. That We Are Lawrence too!

LAWRENCE — For years, Lawrence has suffered from a public relations nightmare: It’s been known variously as the nation’s stolen car capital, arson capital and insurance fraud capital.
Every day seems to bring a new drumbeat of news about arrests for drug deals, robberies and assaults. More recently, headlines have chronicled investigations into alleged corruption connected to City Hall.
Earlier this month, a Boston Magazine article boiled all of that bad news down into one, big headline that showcased Lawrence as “The City of the Damned.” For good measure, it called the city “godforsaken.”
The story has outraged many local residents, business leaders and politicians, who say it was a one-sided depiction of a multicultural city that has much to offer.
And, for them, it was the last straw.
